On Post or Off Post: Who Fixes Your Garage Door?
The first question for garage door repair at Fort Hood is where you live. The answer decides who you call.
| Where you live | Who to call first | Where we fit |
|---|---|---|
| On post family housing | Your housing office or maintenance line | Housing handles these repairs. Outside companies usually are not allowed to work on them. |
| Off post rental | Your landlord or property manager | Many leases say the owner arranges repairs. We can send the written price straight to the manager. |
| Off post home you own | Call us directly at (254) 325-2800 | Full service: springs, cables, openers, rollers, seals, panels and new doors. |
Off post homes in Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove and Nolanville are all in our service area. Our shop is at 202 N Gray in downtown Killeen.
Fort Hood or Fort Cavazos?
Same post. The installation was renamed Fort Cavazos in May 2023, and the Army redesignated it Fort Hood on June 10, 2025. The current name honors Col. Robert B. Hood, recognized for heroism in World War I, according to the official Fort Hood redesignation page.
You will still see both names on maps, leases and moving paperwork. If you searched for garage door repair near Fort Cavazos, you are in the right place.
PCS Move In: Garage Door Checklist
Summer is peak PCS season, and the Army calls it the Summer Surge. If you just moved into an off post house, run through this the first week:
- Clear the old remotes. Previous owners or tenants may still have working remotes and keypad codes. Hold the Learn button on the opener until its light goes out to erase all remotes, then program yours. Check your opener manual for the exact steps. Our remote guide helps if one will not program.
- Change the keypad code.
- Test the auto reverse. Lay a 2×4 flat under the door and close it. The door should reverse on contact.
- Look at the springs and cables. A gap in a torsion spring or a frayed cable means call before using the door.
- Find the emergency release cord and show everyone in the house where it is.
PCS Move Out: Before Final Inspection
Moving trucks and stacked boxes are hard on garage doors. Before you clear the house:
- Walk the door and tracks for damage from loading. A bumped track or creased bottom section is cheaper to fix now than to argue over from your next duty station.
- Return every remote and leave the keypad code for the owner or manager.
- Take dated photos of the door open and closed.
- If something is broken in a rental, report it to the property manager in writing.
If a truck clipped the door, see off track repair or panel replacement.
When You Are Deployed or Away for Training
A garage door does not wait for a good time to break. Spouses and family members often end up dealing with it alone. A few things that help:
- If the door is open with a broken spring, do not pull the emergency release. Without the spring the door can drop. Call us.
- If the door is closed with a broken spring and the car is inside, leave it and call. Lifting it by hand or with the opener can hurt someone and burn out the opener.
- Use the lock or vacation button on the wall control while the house is empty. It blocks remote signals.
- Ask for the written price by text or email so whoever is paying can see it, wherever they are.
Open 24/7
Day and night shifts run at the shop, so a call at 0500 or 2300 gets answered. Arrival time depends on the hour and where you are. We give you a time window on the phone.
