Why a Set Process Matters

Most bad garage door experiences follow the same script. A low price on the phone, a much higher one in the driveway, a part swapped without explanation, and a door that is still out of balance a month later. A set process is how we avoid all of that.

It also protects the door. Springs, cables and drums work as a system. Fixing one part without checking the rest is how a new spring ends up wearing out a frayed cable, or a new opener ends up straining against a door that was never balanced.

The Six Steps

1. YOU CALL, WE LISTEN

You tell us what the door is doing. We ask a few questions: did you hear a bang, is the door crooked, is a car trapped. Most of the time we can tell you on the phone what the likely problem is, whether it is safe to use the door and what the usual price range looks like. The shop is open 24/7, so this works at night too.

2. ARRIVAL AND WHOLE DOOR CHECK

The technician looks at the whole system, not just the part you called about: springs, cables, drums, bearings, rollers, hinges, tracks, the opener, the sensors and the balance of the door. On most calls this takes a few minutes and finds whatever else is close to failing.

3. WRITTEN PRICE BEFORE WORK

You get a written price with each part named. If there are options, like standard springs versus higher cycle springs, or repairing an old opener versus replacing it, you see both prices side by side. Nothing starts until you say yes.

4. THE REPAIR

Springs are sized to the weight of your door, not grabbed off the truck because they are close. Cables are replaced in pairs. Tracks are aligned and fastened. Rollers and hinges that are worn get flagged, and replaced if you approve.

5. BALANCE AND ADJUST

A door is balanced when it stays put halfway up with the opener disconnected. We set spring tension until it does, then set the opener travel limits and force so the opener is not doing the springs’ job.

6. SAFETY TEST AND WALKTHROUGH

We test the safety sensors and the auto reverse with a board on the floor, run the door several times, lubricate moving parts and show you what was done. Old parts go with us.

Garage Door Repair Process FAQ

Still not sure what your door needs? Call and describe it. We can often tell you on the phone whether it’s the spring, the cable or the opener.

How long does a typical repair take?

Most single repairs like a spring, cable set or sensor fix take about an hour or two once the technician is on site. New doors and openers take longer.

Do I need to be home?

Yes, or someone over 18 who can approve the written price. For rentals, the owner or manager can approve by phone.

Will you tell me if I do not need a repair?

Yes. If the problem is a tripped outlet, lock mode or a sensor that just needed cleaning, we will tell you.

What if you find more problems once the door is open?

We stop and tell you before doing anything extra. Nothing is added to the price without your approval.

Do you test the safety features?

Every time. Sensors and auto reverse are tested before we leave.

Same Process for Small Jobs

A roller swap or a new bottom seal follows the same steps as a spring repair: whole door check, written price, repair, balance test and auto reverse test. That is how a worn roller visit sometimes uncovers a frayed cable. See roller replacement and weather stripping.
